Taylor Maid...A blue water cruising catamaran for all seasons! Pick up any sailing magazine with a picture of sailors having a great time and you'll see a picture of a catamaran. Sailors have come to appreciate the speed, comfort, and convenience of sailing flat. Unlike catamarans, (cats), monohull sailboats must drag the weight of a mid-size car underneath their keels to keep the boat upright in a strong wind. Cats provide a stable platform and a shallow draft (3'3") that allows the boat to navigate areas monohullers wouldn't dream of. With four water tight compartments (one on each hull corner) and cored construction, Prout cats are unsinkable and are very stable.
(A Prout catamaran has never rolled over, ever.) In a very extreme case of rolling a catamaran, the cabin can be accessed to safely retrieve food and stores while waiting for help. Compare this to the alternative available to monohullers of waiting in a rubber raft with minimal stowage. For the latest information on catamaran sailing safety, design, live aboard, basic handling strategies, essential storm canvas and the future of catamarans read "Sailing on the Level in Modern Multihulls" in Blue Water Sailing, March 2003. Also, review the galley of cats in this same article and take a look at "The Fastest show on Earth", SAIL, March 2003. This Catamaran is Special… Before her christening as Taylor Maid, this particular boat was featured on the July/Aug 2002 cover of Multihulls Magazine. See her statistics in the same magazine on page 37. The boat was designed and built in 1998. The builder, Prout, has since been purchased by Broadblue who continues to offer this model as the Privilege 38. What's your passion? She's ready to go... Interior The interior is finished with beautiful satin-varnished cherry veneer, floored with indestructible manmade teak and holly flooring and cored with closed-cell foam. The galley sports a double stainless steel sink, automatic-electric light - four-burner propane stove and oven, separate fridge and freezer, microwave, and lots of storage and counter top space. The open design of the galley gives full access to the salon allowing easy conversation with folks seated at the dinner table and its own porthole for ventilation and full view of the outside world... The galley hand will never feel claustrophobic. The chart desk is built-in with its own swing out seating while the settee is upholstered with Alcantara sea green suede vinyl and the dinner tabletop has a beautifully inlaid dolphin crafted into the high-gloss finish.
Sail Design and RiggingUnlike other cats, all of Prouts' blue water cruisers, including Taylor Maid, have the main mast stepped just in front of the cockpit. This design sports a powerful roller- furled genoa with almost twice the sail area of the full batten mainsail. Additionally, the layout of rigging allows for easy single-handling of all sheets from the cockpit. The Asymmetrical spinnaker and gear provides a full 1075 sq. ft. of cruising chute area for light air sailing. The helm, with all navigation instrumentation, is to starboard and gives a clear view of the entire boat without leaving the captain's chair (This is a rarity in cruising boats). The hardtop Bimini accommodates full, weather-proof curtains for cool weather and screens for summer. The open breezeway provides ready access through a full-size companionway door into the salon. This easy access provides maximum comfort to the captain during any weather as well as excellent ventilation and a full "ocean view" for a full 360 degrees from the large windows and portholes in the salon. Anchorage Anchorage is easy with the included 300 feet of chain rode and 35# CQR or 45# spade anchors riding off the center of the bow. Pulling anchor is a snap with the electric windless and Chesapeake mud is easily removed with the built-in pressurized wash-down system that doubles as a bilge pump. Anchoring in a river with strong current conditions is made easy by placing a second anchor off the stern over the chafe plate and using the self-tailing wench to raise the anchor. Dinghy Going ashore is by way of a hard bottom RIB dinghy that has a 15hp four-stroke Honda outboard that includes custom tailored canvas covers. Engine The twin, up-sized, 3GM30 FW (30hp water cooled) Yanmar diesel engines easily push Taylor Maid at 8-9knots with bare poles. Both of the roomy engine compartments have extra sound proofing, auto halogen fire extinguishers, auto bilge pumps, starter batteries in special containers and easy access from the top. The electronics are protected by a lightening dissipater, C/W ground plate and is enhanced by a new VHF/FM/AM antenna system with quick disconnect for lightening protection. Electronics Taylor Maid has hydraulic steering and a complete electronics package including Nautech ST 50 wind instruments, Nautech ST7000 type II autopilot, 24kW Furuno color radar/chart plotter, Furuno color chart plotter/fish/depth/sounder/GPS and Intrepid VHF w/DSC and separate helm ram mike. The VHS has auto fog horn signaling and listening between signals. Not only does Taylor Maid carry a full complement of electronic chart chips for the Furuno chart plotters and radar, it also carries the Chartview Nautical Software (including tide charts) and floppy disks of East Coast electronic charts for your laptop computer. What's Your Passion? Taylor Maid is for sale by the original owner who has spared no expense to make this boat his "personal best". She is the safest, most comfortable, and highly maintained blue water cruser on the East Coast. Unlike mass-produced cats made for bare-boat rentals, such high-quality Prout boats are not readily available to the general market. The Taylor Maid is a rare, exceptionally outfitted, and maintained catamaran... only the captain's health brings her to market. If you appreciate true design and construction heritage you will love this boat. She's Ready to Go!
